✨ Embroidering Glamour: Dior, Elizabeth Taylor & a Legendary Oscar Gown ✨
Workshop Dates: Saturday 27 September & Saturday 4 October 2025
Time: 15:30 – 18:00 CET on Zoom
This September, step into the glittering world of Hollywood elegance and Parisian haute couture with embroidery designer Nadia Albertini, as she brings to life the story and detail of one of the most iconic gowns in red carpet history.
In this two-session embroidery workshop, you'll be guided by Nadia—who brings over 20 years of haute couture embroidery experience—through the glamour and craftsmanship of the Christian Dior gown and worn by Elizabeth Taylor to the 1961 Academy Awards, the night she won her very first Oscar.
This breathtaking couture creation was a masterpiece of embellishment, embroidered with delicate blossoms and insects in shades of green silk.
Taylor, who had been facing harsh press and personal scandal, did not expect to win that evening. She considered the gown a good luck charm and, although she never wore it again, she travelled with it for a decade—a quiet talisman of triumph and resilience. Believed to be lost for years, the dress was recently rediscovered in a suitcase in London and sold in auction for 200,000 euros in 2023.
✨ In this embroidery workshop, you’ll:
Explore the behind-the-scenes story of this legendary gown and Marc Bohan’s early years at Dior
Learn about the Rébé atelier. Nadia has conducted extensive research and written a book about them: an embroidery house that worked for Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy, and other couture legends
Receive an exclusive limited-edition embroidery kit inspired by the Dior gown’s motif, textures, and color palette
Your embroidery kit includes:
A printed cotton panel with a floral and insect motif inspired by the original gown
3 shades of DMC cotton mouliné thread in green and yellow
French sequins in floral, star, drop, and square shapes
3mm Swarovski sew-on crystals
Gold and green seed beads
Green bugle beads and 5mm copper tubes
Yellow flower-shaped beads
You’ll learn to embellish this luminous design using simple yet stunning stitches that bring depth, light, and texture—echoing the movement of the embroidered blossoms on Taylor’s iconic skirt.
A few days before the first session, you’ll receive a comprehensive tech pack via email, with detailed guidance on materials placement and techniques.
You’ll need to bring:
A 26cm embroidery hoop or your usual slate frame
Embroidery scissors
Embroidery needle and beading needle
This workshop is not just about embroidery—it’s about storytelling through thread, stepping into fashion history, and celebrating the enduring legacy of a gown that meant the world to one of the 20th century’s most glamorous stars.
Limited seats available—reserve yours for this unforgettable couture tribute.
