AUGUST Online embroidery workshop

Nadia brings 20+ years experience as an embroidery designer and combines couture embroidery history, design and practice in this workshop. Nadia designs different limited-edition embroidery kits every month.
Nadia will start the workshop by talking you through her research in the Rébé archives these past seven years and tell you everything about their fabulous work for haute couture. Their client list included famous names like Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy and Balenciaga.
Inspired by their original work, from the drawing to the sample and the amazing dress sketch, Nadia will take you on a journey to discover the magnificent work of Jacques Fath, forgotten yet brilliant French couturier. For his Spring Summer 1949 collection, Fath commissioned a very special embellishment from the Rébé atelier. Before we proceed to the actual embroidery work, you will learn about haute couture fashion history and understand the every step of the process involved in creating such piece.
You will receive an embroidery kit which includes:
Printed cotton panel with the Jacques Fath inspired-motif
Mussel shells cleaned and pierced, ready to be stitched.
Swarovski crystals: clear clasped crystals + golden faceted beads
Real coral beads
Golden textured round sequins (two types)
Golden seed beads
We will embellish this luxurious summer motifs using simple yet beautiful stitches that combine beads, sequins, giving dimension and depth to the embroidery work. A few days before the first session, you will receive a tech pack by email, which includes the design layout, the materials placement and detailed techniques descriptions.
You will only need the following additional materials:
- 26cm embroidery hoop or your usual slate frame
- your favorite embroidery scissors
- your favorite embroidery needle, beading needle and beige sewing thread.
The workshop is 5 hours long (2 sessions of 2h30 hours each with a 15min break in the middle). These will be recorded and you will be sent a link by email, a couple of days after each class and the recordings will be available for 3 months after the last class. The embroidery artwork will take between 16 to 20 hours to be completed, at your own pace from the comfort of your home, depending on your embroidery skills.
